Night net coaching hot seats: Who goes into 2018 most in line of firing?

  • Night net null null null null null null null Being an Night net head coach comes with a lot of benefits. Guaranteed long-term job security is not one of them.Training camp is still a couple months away, but pressure is already on coaches around the league to win in 2018. That brings us to the coaches who are going into the season most on proverbial hot seats, plus those who are just chilling in another year of a successful tenure. From the guys who survived last season's black Monday to the slew of new coaches hired in 2018, here's a ranking of who's hot and who's not. Night net coaches on hot seatsHue Jackson, Browns: New general manager John Dorsey has inspired optimism with his movies, but that also means respectable results must follow. If Jackson's Browns show early signs of anything close to the production that has led to a 1-31 record over his first two seasons, it will be unacceptable, and he won't see it through the Baker Mayfield era.Dirk Koetter, Buccaneers: The offensive-mined Koetter remains in Tampa Bay because the team hopes things eventually will work with Jameis Winston. But if a talented, improving team stays in fourth place, even in the tough NFC South, it won't cut it.Jay Gruden, Redskins: While his brother Jon returns to make it two Grudens coaching in the Night net, Jay will need to do some work to avoid dropping that number back to one. The Eagles are ahead of everyone else in the NFC East, and the Cowboys and Giants are capable of rebounds only a season removed from the playoffs. If Washington finishes last in the division only three years after winning it with Gruden, Dan Snyder might make a change.MORE: Ranking Super Bowl-winning head coaches, from legendary to luckyVance Joseph, Broncos: Joseph got a reprieve from John Elway to avoid a one-and-done. But now that the GM has upgraded the roster, the Broncos need to do more than just be competetive. They should aim for first or second in the AFC West with the Chiefs (new QB) and Raiders (new coach) undergoing big changes.Adam Gase, Dolphins: Gase has deployed his power over Miami's personnel by letting go of players like Jay Ajayi, Jarvis Landry and Ndamukong Suh, hoping to create a better dynamic on the field and in the locker room. But that drain of talent will make it harder for Ga[......]

Revenge aside, former Patriot Brandin Cooks is key to a Rams Super Bowl win

  • Night net 夜网论坛 null null null ATLANTA — If Super Bowl 53 turns out to be a successful second stop on The Brandin Cooks Playoff Revenge Tour, two weeks after Los Angeles topped the wide receiver's original Night net team in New Orleans, the Rams will beat the Patriots on Sunday.Cooks, who was traded to LA from New England before the season, was instrumental in helping the Rams outlast the Saints in the NFC championship game. He led the team with his seven catches for 107 yards on only eight targets, and he was even more effective than the stats indicate. Cooks, 25, employed his full skill set of quickness and speed, short and deep in a great mix of play calls by coach Sean McVay. The Rams surely will try to get their top big-play threat going again by getting him involved all over the field Sunday. What's in doubt is how the Patriots will counter. Can they keep Cooks from celebrating the ultimate vengeance?SUPER BOWL 53 PICKS:Rams-Patriots predictions from SN's experts Cooks spent most of Super Bowl media week explaining how his lone season in New England last year made him a smarter player. He also has rare experience as a receiver who spent a year getting a daily look at Stephon Gilmore, the Patriots' All-Pro cornerback."They're playing at a very high level ... playing man-to-man and doing a lot of different things," Cooks said of the Patriots in a conversation with Sporting News. "You kind of need to wait until the game to see what’s going on. Stephon does everything well. He's a very smart player and plays the ball well. I have a lot of respect for that guy."As teammates, Gilmore and Cooks became great friends. Each has an understanding of what kind of challenge he will face against the other."He has great speed and he can run every route," Gilmore told SN, speaking about Cooks. "He's made plays lining up everywhere. He's a great player. I can't wait to match up against him."Which brings up the biggest coverage question and mystery of Super Bowl 53: Will the Patriots shadow Cooks with Gilmore, or will they turn to the high-low bracket — a double-team, in essence — with another corner and safety?MORE: Top 10 Super Bowl-winning teamsThe latter plan worked for New England against Kansas City's speedy No. 1 wideout Tyreek Hill in the AFC championship game. Hill escaped for one, 42-yard catch downfield, but the Patriots took him out of the game. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes targeted Hill only three times. But the Rams deploy Cooks in a different way than the Chiefs utilized Hill. Cooks works from the slot only a quarter of the time; Hill lines up there nearly half the time. The Rams have a strong co-No. 1 receiver in Robert[......]

Night net Draft 2019: Montez Sweat's heart condition may have been misdiagnosed at combine

  • Night net null null Better late than never, but as it turns out, the Night net Combine reports of an enlarged heart for former Mississippi State defensive end Montez Sweat may have been nothing to sweat about at all.Following a stellar 2018 season for the Bulldogs in which Sweat recorded 14 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks, the 6-6, 260-pound edge rusher was in the discussion to be one of the first picks of the 2019 Night net Draft, likely only after fellow linemen like Nick Bosa or Ed Oliver. More: Vinnie Iyer's final mock draftBut medical tests at the combine revealed that Sweat had a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — a condition i夜网论坛n which a portion of the heart becomes abnormally thick. This led to a fall Sweat's draft stock and even a total removal from several team's draft boards. New reports on the morning of the draft, however, indicate that doctors at the combine may have made an error when measuring the thickness of Sweat's heart. Night net Network reporter Ian Rapoport spoke with several sources close to the situation that Sweat has since been re-evaluted by Dr. James Muntz, who determined his heart is not enlarged. From our Night net pre-draft coverage: #MSU pass-rusher Montez Sweat may have been misdiagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Two sources say the thickness of Sweat's heart wall is actually 1.5 cms, not nearly 2.0. I explain below why the risk could be much lower. pic.twitter.com/PUVsbO2tDw— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 25, 2019The error is believed to have been that doctors at the combine included the papillary muscle when measuring the thickness of his heart wall, adding an extra 0.5 cm to the total thickness. Without measuring the muscle, Sweat's heart is 1.5 cm thick, and therefore not deemed enlarged. With just hours before the draft, the recent news surrounding Sweat's health could cause several teams to reevaluate Sweat and potentially move the former Bulldog up the draft board. In 2017 Michigan defensive tackle Maurice Hurst was considered a potential top-10 pick until he, too, was diagnosed at the combine with a similar heart problem Hurst's stock fell significantly until he was chosen in the fifth round by the Raiders. He had four sacks last year for Oakland.[......]

What Giants GM Dave Gettleman has done right and wrong in managing roster

  • Night net null There's an old saying that applies to sports teams and their leaders: It’s a short distance from the penthouse to the outhouse. Giants general manager Dave Gettleman understands this well.Four years ago, Gettleman was the toast of the town after being voted Sporting News Night net executive of the year. Except that town was Charlotte; he had just built the Panthers into a 15-1 team. Eighteen months later, he was fired. He quickly resurfaced as Giants GM in December of 2017 and inherited a train wreck of a 3-13 team. Things improved only slightly for New York at 5-11 last season. Gettleman's drafting of Saquon Barkley last April was questioned when so many top quarterbacks were available. Now he has charged into 2019 and really shaken things up, again creating angst within his critics. The recent trade of Odell Beckham Jr. six months after signing the star receiver to a massive contract tops the list, even with a good return in the deal."Trust me, we got a plan," Gettleman said this week. In a defensive manner, he added, "It's not my responsibility to tell you guys what we're doing." IYER: Giants among losers of free agencyAs a former GM, I understand that being second-guessed is part of the job. Gettleman seems a bit thin-skinned for a New York-area GM who should know darts are going to be tossed when he trades a big-夜网论坛time talent such as Beckham so soon after pronouncing he “didn't sign Odell to trade him."In retrospect, after taking the reins in the Meadowlands back in 2017, I would have taken a different course of action than the route Gettleman has taken. And aside from recommending that Gettleman take a softer approach in his public comments, I have some suggestions for the Giants GM moving forward.MORE: What's next for Giants post-OBJ?Let's start with Beckham. I advocated for the Giants to trade him early last year after he had created too many on- and off-field issues and had a major injury (fractured ankle that landed him on injured reserve in 2017). Gettleman instead made Beckham the Night net's highest-paid receiver. Giants owner John Mara can't be thrilled with shelling out a $20 million signing bonus only to lose Beckham a year later (and then taking on the dead money hit) after the Browns made what Gettleman called an offer that was too good to refuse.I think the better course would have been to work out a sign-and-trade deal for Beckham last year. The Giants might not have gotten as strong of a return as they did this year, but they likely would have received at least a couple high draft picks. And without the dead money hit from Beckham, the Giants could have put the franchise tag on safety Landon Collins and kept him; or perhaps they could have traded him rather than losing their defensive leader and getting nothing in return. As for the trades of Eli Apple, Damon Ha[......]

Night net Draft Combine results: Highlights, 40 times, more from player workouts

  • Night net null Results from the 2019 Night net Combine will help teams determine what players they want to include on their boards for the Night net Draft even though, for the most part, those boards were set before the annual event in Indianapolis. Combine results often serve as nothing more than affirmation after months of scouting. Sometimes, though, they can serve as difference-makers.The 2019 Night net Combine technically began Tuesday, Feb. 26, when the first group of players arrived in Indianapolis. ESPN eyes Ben Watson for Night net TV role, SN sources say
