trade rumors: Nationals willing to trade Denard Span?

  • Trading f夜网论坛or Denard Span was one of the big offseason splashes the Washington Nationals made last year that convinced many the team was a World Series favorite. That didn't happen, and now the Nats appear willing to deal the 29-year-old center fielder, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman. Heyman speculates that Washington's willingness to listen to offers on Span could be related to its pursuit of free agent CF Jacoby Ellsbury of the Boston Red Sox. Signing Ellsbury would make Span expendable. But the Nationals have plenty of competition for Ellsbury: Heyman reports the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros and New York Mets also are interested. After a sluggish first half, Span came on in the finals months of 2013 and ended up with a .279/.327/.380 slash line and 20 stolen bases.[......]

Deion, Bo, Russell? 'Never say never,' but not right now, Wilson says

  • SURPRISE, Ariz. — Russell Wilson has talked to Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson, but the Super Bowl-winning quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks is not ready to follow in their footsteps as two-sport stars.Wilson was the star attraction at Texas Rangers camp on Monday, suiting up and taking ground balls with the team that selected him from the Colorado Rockies in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft in December. Wilson, who was Colorado's fourth-round pick out of N.C. State in 2010 and hit .228 in 193 at-bats as a second baseman for Single-A Asheville in 2011, has not given up his major league dream, but it's the gridiron that is his present and his foreseeable future. POWER RANKINGS: Rangers No. 2; who's No. 1?"Deion always tries to push me to play two sports," Wilson said. "I've talked to him about it. I haven't talked to Bo Jackson as much, but Deion, I've been around him several times and he always tells me to go for it. He played defensive back, so (he) could kind of not watch film. I've got to watch film more than Deion did, but Deion's such a spectacular player. I wish I could get to their level, as far as Bo Jackson and Deion, and if that ever came around, I can never say never. I would consider it. I've been considering it my whole life, but obviously my focus is on football." Coming into camp, putting on a uniform, fulfilling part of a personal dream, and dragging along a media horde to do so could have rubbed some people with the Rangers the wrong way[......]

World Series Game 3: Obstruction call a rarity, but correct in game-ending play

  • Saturday's Game 3 brought something no one has seen before in the World Series: a walk-off victory via obstruction. The St. Louis Cardinals benefited, gaining a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox for a 2-1 series lead. While fans and media talking heads debated the ending, there was no debate. Third base umpire Jim Joyce immediately signaled obstruction. Allen Craig was tripped by Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks, who was on the ground after failing to snag an errant throw."With the defensive player on the ground, without intent or intent, it's still obstruction," Joyce said. "You'd probably have to ask Middlebrooks that one, if he could have done anything. But that's not in our determination." Umpires and executive Joe Torre were on the scene to explain why the decision was correct. Umpires answered the questions of Red Sox manager John Farrell and protests from his players. The only resulting question: Was Craig injured? He appeared to limp away from the plate after an awkward slide. Already nursing a sore foot that kept him out from the first week of September until Game 1 of the World Series, Craig might miss additional time.Expect a determination ahead of Sunday's Game 4. First pitch at Busch Stadium is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET, with Lance Lynn scheduled to pitch against Clay Buchholz. However, Buchholz is questionable because of an injury. Here's how the final play happened.Yadier Molina singled. Craig, a pinch hitter, ripped a double down the left-f[......]
